CONTEST FOR ROMANCE
WRITERS NOW OPEN |
NOVELLA CONTEST FOR
ROMANCE WRITERS |
ROMANCE WRITERS:
Romance Novella Contest
Inamorata Romance Books (an imprint of
Stony Meadow Publishing) is sponsoring it's first romantic
novella contest. The contest is open to all writers, whether
published or unpublished, and we are looking forward to reading some
great romance tales!
LIST OF RULES FOR SUBMISSION:
CATEGORY: Robot Romance
-
All
romance novellas must be submitted by the author holding the
copyright. (If your novella is not copyrighted, don't worry. Copyright laws protect
your work from the moment you started writing it.)
-
All
novellas must be centered around robots and must be romance
oriented. Remember, romantic fiction, whether it's a short story or
a novel, must follow certain traditional rules and guidelines. The
heroine and hero of your story are the centerpiece. The storyline,
although it too needs to be strong, is secondary to the relationship
between our lovers. And romance novels almost always end up with a
firm committment between the couple and end happily. The only
difference here is that at least one (or both) of your main
characters (heroine/hero) must be robots. So we're really looking at a science
fiction/romance overlap.
-
Contest Deadline:
July 1, 2010.
-
Your romance
novella must be previously unpublished in print format. (Online
publication is okay as long as you hold the copyright and are not
bound by exclusivity to any person, party or website.)
-
No erotica
please. This is a category all of its own and has no proper
place in a true romance novel. But sexy scenes, even love-making, is
always a must element in romance novels. If you've never written
romance, you need to do your homework and read a couple of books
before starting your masterpiece.
-
By submitting your
romance novella, you authorize us to reprint the entry (if we so
desire) on
one or more of our websites including
www.StonyMeadowPublishing.com,
www.WritersEdgeBook.com
and/or
www.InamorataRomanceBooks.com. You also give Stony Meadow Publishing and
Inamorata Romance Books First North American Serial Rights if we decide
your entry is in the top three or four stories received. We expect
to release
Robot Romance: 4 Novellas
in the 4th quarter of 2010. (Check
here for more information on copyrights.) All other rights
remain yours. We only desire single time use rights.
-
All
entries should be
between 50-80 pages (12,500-20,000
words). This
is based on the industry stardard submission rule of about 250 words per page.
However, is not a strict guideline, but anything
differing from these figures should be the exception rather than the
rule and you should query first.
-
Once again, all
Robot Romance novellas need to be romance oriented and follow the guidelines for
writing romantic fiction in general. (Remember, the heroine and hero
always live happily ever after.)
-
Please submit no more
than two novellas for this contest.
-
You may withdraw your
entry from consideration at any point, but this request must be made in writing
or by e-mail.
-
Winners will be notified within
60 days of the
contest's end.
-
Submit all entries via e-mail to
StonyMeadowPublishing@gmail.com. You can either copy your story
into the e-mail or send it
as an attachment in either in Word (.doc) format or (.rtf) rich text
format.
-
Include the title of
your entry, your name, address and e-mail address. Also please
specify that it is for the Robotic Romance Novella contest.
-
Please use a serif type to format
your short story. (i.e. Times Roman, Georgia, Courier).
Prize Money is as follows:
All prize money will
be awarded upon publication of the book which should happen in the 3rd
or 4th quarter of 2010 depending on how many entries we receive. We
reserve the right to extend the contest for lack of submissisons.
We accept
only electronic submissions. Please
send all entries, questions and inquiries to
StonyMeadowPublishing@gmail.com.
We will also accept questions and queries by snail mail (Stony Meadow Publishing, 1690 Dunn Avenue #619, Daytona Beach,
FL 32114), but all submitted manuscripts must be in either .doc or rich text
format.

The Songwriter's Journal
Stan Swanson
I just wrote my first week's song, and I'm having a
hard time keeping myself from reading ahead to next week. In fact, if
I didn't have other things to do, I could just cuddle up with this
book for the winter and write one song after another. -- S. Lick |
